We all start somewhere.
As a beginning teacher in 2010, Benjamin had terrible behaviour management skills, and his pedagogy - if it could even be called that - was woeful.
2 years later, struggling and failing to find success in the classroom, he was on the verge of dropping out of the profession that he’d spent 4 years studying to enter.
He’s grateful now for the advice he got, and the decision that he made; to stick it out. He went on to ‘cut his teeth’ and practice his profession in East London Secondary schools before moving back to Australia.
Now, 15 years later, as Head of Teaching & Learning in a large secondary school in Brisbane’s Western Corridor, Benjamin has the privilege and the responsibility of directly working with 38 early career teachers, and over 100 more experienced teachers.
They are the reason he gets up in the morning.
The idea for EnactED arose on a Saturday Morning, when he read an article about Nurses in Emergency Departments using VR Headsets to practice de-escalation skills for high-pressure situations. He immediately recognised the potential of the technology to assist teachers who were having trouble enacting what they know about Classroom Management and Pedagogy in the moments when it really mattered; the high-pressure environment of the classroom.
Looking around and finding nobody else who had adopted the idea, Benjamin decided to develop such a program himself.

In 2024, his commitment was recognised by winning the Queensland College of Teachers TeachX Award for Excellence in Leadership of Teaching & Learning, and being named on the list of Queensland’s Most Influential Teachers.
Benjamin is proud of his achievements, but also slightly embarrassed and humbled when he thinks back to the beginning of his career; he remembers this: Every teacher starts somewhere.
