Program Structure:

‘Hard Lessons’ is structured as a sequence of 4 modules that mirror the escalating challenges of classroom practice; beginning with Establishing Control, and progressing through Managing Disruption, Responding to Defiance, and De-escalating Conflict.

Each module is delivered through a three-phase progression that mirrors the ‘Gradual Release’ learning structure: Guided Practice —> Supported Performance —> Full Simulation, ensuring teachers build skill, confidence, and consistency under pressure.

Module 1 – Establish Control Fast

This module is designed to help teachers establish control at the very start of a lesson. Through guided virtual reality rehearsal, teachers practice delivering clear entry routines, gaining attention quickly, and reinforcing positive behaviour. The scenario focuses on making intentional early choices that shape classroom climate.

Module 2 – Shut Down Disruption

This module develops teacher capability in responding to low-level disruption without interrupting lesson flow. Teachers practise selective attention, calm redirection, and maintaining instructional momentum under pressure.

Module 3 – Handling Defiance

This module focuses on responding to direct student defiance. Teachers practise maintaining authority, using calm tone, and delivering clear directives without escalating conflict. In addition to the standard 3-phase progression, our Defiance Module has easy, moderate and “spicy” levels of difficulty.

Module 4 – De-escalate Conflict

This module builds teacher skill in managing peer conflict and escalation. Teachers practise de-escalation techniques, positioning, and maintaining safety while preserving authority.
